TV Wrap Up

Background: What happens when you combine the JFK assassination and Time Travel? 11.22.63 is what you get, and it is a damn good show. I was blown away 11.22.63. The show is about as well produced as any show out there. The characters are spot on, the cinematography is beautiful, and the plot is intriguing. The plot: 11.22.63 is about a man named Jake Epping (James Franco) who is asked to go through a time portal to prevent the JFK assassination. The man who tasks him with it believes that if the assassination is prevented then the future would be different for the better. Jake isn't so convinced but time travels anyway. Jake arrives in the past three years before the assassination takes place, and has to be convinced that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone with the plot. To be convinced he needs to follow Oswald and any other people he interacts with. The Characters: A couple characters make a big impact on Jake. The first is Bill Turcotte. BoJack Horseman is one of the more unique shows I have watched. As an adult cartoon it is already different than most shows, but the concept is very unique. BoJack Horseman is set in a reality where both animals and humans co-exist in life. They have social relationships and intimate relationships, and it is weird to watch these interactions. The character development and characteristics are so well done in this show that you don't seem them as animals and humans, you just see them as characters.  The plot of the first season revolves around our main character BoJack Horseman. He is former TV star from the 1990s who has not acclimated to life after his acting career ended. When we first meet BoJack he is in the middle of working on his memoir. He is having trouble writing it, so his agent/ex-girlfriend Princess Carolyn urges him to get a ghost writer. This is when he meets Diane Nguyen. He is immediately attracted to her, but is dating his TV rival Mr. Peanutbutter. BoJa...

I started the television Future Man a couple weeks ago. After watching the first episode I was not really impressed with it, and thought it was juvenile. I was going to review BoJack Horseman for this week's review, but then I finished watching Future Man. After watching the rest of the season I realized the brilliance of the show. The show is a homage to 80's sci-fi. The show consists of a lot of Terminator and Back to the Future references. A lot of the references really hit perfectly for the show, and a lot of what it accomplishes is because of this.  Josh Futturman is a loser janitor and spends most of his time playing the video game Biotic Wars. After Josh beats the game the main characters of the game Tiger and Wolf enter his room. They are from the future and our asking for his help in fixing the apocalyptic future. Tiger and Wolf are ruthless human beings, and in their future it is either kill or be killed. They see Josh as the chosen one since he beat the video ...

The Last Man on Earth is one of the funniest shows that I have ever seen, and it is by far the best show I have seen since starting this blog. The show is brilliant in the way it works. The show only consists of about six characters in the first season, and over half of the season we only interact with four characters. The humor is witty and the banter back and forth between the characters is phenomenal. The general premise of the show is what would happen if you were the last person on earth, and you find out pretty quickly that there isn't a whole lot to do. Our main character is Phil Miller who is wonderfully played by Will Forte. Phil is the namesake of the last man on Earth. In prior events of the show, Phil travels around the United States painting on billboards, "ALIVE IN TUCSON." He does this in case if anyone is alive they will come to him. When he has had enough of living by himself he is about to kill himself, but at the last second he sees smoke and realizes...

Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition Era of America. The story revolves around Enoch "Nucky" Thompson the corrupt treasure of Atlantic County and the tribulations he faces. Throughout the show Thompson interacts with historical figures including Al Capone, Arnold Rothsein, Lucky Luciano, and Johnny Torrio. The law enforcement is chasing after Thompson's illegal activities and most notably by Prohibition agent Nelson Van Alden. Steve Buscemi portrays Nucky Thompson and he does an wonderful job with the portrayal. While at first I did not believe that Buscemi could portray such a daunting person. I was quickly won over. With Nucky you do not know who you are going to get. The people he does not trust or have screwed him over will pay the price for it. Nucky has a tortured past that includes his young son and wife dying. His childhood was not much better either with an abusive father. Atlanta was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of 2016. Donald Glover won an Emmy for lead actor in a comedy for his portrayal as Earnest "Earn" Marks. The show centers around Marks who is the manager for his up and coming rapper cousin Paper Boi. As I mentioned Donald Glover portrays our main Character, and he does a phenomenal job in his performance. Earn is really down on his luck when we first meet him in the show. He is broke, lives with his on-again-off-again girlfriend, and have a daughter. Earn really is just trying to give them a good living and everything he does is for them. Glover is known for his comedic performance in the tv show Community, and he brings this comedic element to Earn. While for the most part Atlanta is a drama it has elements of comedy sprinkled throughout each episode. Glover also plays well off each character he interacts with. You see the relationship trouble he and his girlfriend have in each scene they are in together. Whenever...

So this week I am doing a different kind of review. The first few weeks I reviewed the first season of a certain show. This week I have not had the time to watch a 20 episode season. So instead I watched a Hulu documentary called Too Funny to Fail: The Life and Death of The Dana Carvey Show . I have to say that this documentary was very interesting. I did not know much about The Dana Carvey Show, but I had watched the people involved. The play-by-play of how the show went from its beginning to its demise was captivating.  The Dana Carvey Show was a sketch comedy show by the comic Dana Carvey. After Carvey left Saturday Night Live he wanted to start a show that would revolutionize sketch comedy. The Dana Carvey Show was essentially a raunchier version of Saturday Night Live. The difference between the two was that The Dana Carvey Show was put in primetime while Saturday Night Live was a late-night show.
