Arrested Development | Season One
Arrested Development is show about the dysfunctional family of the Bluth's. The reason I liked this season so much was due to how horrible a family they are. They are egotistical and only care about themselves and this the kind of people I enjoy watching. Anyway the show is about how the Bluth's live their daily lives after the head of the family is arrested for multitude of charges. The oldest son has to take over the daily activities of the family business, and thus the family itself.
A little background on each member of the Bluth family. The Patriarch of the family is George Bluth Sr. George Sr. is played by Jeffrey Tambor and he plays the character perfectly. The sinister persona that Tambor portrays really fits what the show is trying to tell you who this character is. George Sr. wife is Lucille Bluth she is very manipulative person who controls everything going on in her children's lives. Their oldest son is Michael Bluth and is played by Jason Bateman. The thing about Michael is that he is probably the nicest Bluth but he really is as big of a jerk as the other Bluth's. He often forgets to take in account what his son wants to and simply makes decisions on his own. Michael son is George Michael Bluth and is played by Michael Cera. George Michael really tries to make his dad proud by doing the things that his dad would do. Michael's twin sister, Lindsay Bluth-Funke is self-absorbed and is a very shallow person. My favorite Bluth is George Oscar Bluth (Gob) played by Will Arnett. He is the least like Bluth in the family where his mother and father openly tell him that they do not care much for him. Gob is by far the most obnoxious Bluth. He is a womanizer and a truely terrible magician. His bigest act of the first season is making the Bluth family yacht disappear. He makes it disappear by blowing up the yacht and sinking it into the harbor. The final Bluth is Buster. He is the most childish Bluth and lives with his mother. The final two main characters of the show is the aspiring actor and husband of Lindsay, Tobias Funke. Also their daughter Maeby Funke.
The first season's arc covers how the Bluth's are managing their daily lives with George Sr, in prison. Michael is the de facto president of the Bluth company while his dad is in prison. With this responsibility he tries to make sure that the other Bluth's do not burn through the money they have left. He learns this is hard with the way is mother and sister purchase unnecessary things. Whenever a problem comes up for the Bluth's though they go to prison and visit their father. He usually makes things worse for them. George Sr. either gets his family in more trouble than before or simply does not help in the family matter.
Most of the humor comes from the awkward moments between the family members and through the narration done by Ron Howard. The casting of the show is brilliant each actor portrays their character perfectly. The dialogue of the show is very witty and it really bounces around when two or more characters are together. I particularly enjoyed the first season of the show. The cast really kept me captivated and had me wondering what stupid thing they would do next. Some of the problems with this show though are that some of the characters are so unlikable that it starts dragging when one of these characters are in a scene. Also some of the dialogue has the feeling of being improvised and it sometimes does not land as much as you wish it would.
