TV Wrap Up

Boardwalk Empire is set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition Era of America. The story revolves around Enoch "Nucky" Thompson the corrupt treasure of Atlantic County and the tribulations he faces. Throughout the show Thompson interacts with historical figures including Al Capone, Arnold Rothsein, Lucky Luciano, and Johnny Torrio. The law enforcement is chasing after Thompson's illegal activities and most notably by Prohibition agent Nelson Van Alden. Steve Buscemi portrays Nucky Thompson and he does an wonderful job with the portrayal. While at first I did not believe that Buscemi could portray such a daunting person. I was quickly won over. With Nucky you do not know who you are going to get. The people he does not trust or have screwed him over will pay the price for it. Nucky has a tortured past that includes his young son and wife dying. His childhood was not much better either with an abusive father. Atlanta was one of the most critically acclaimed shows of 2016. Donald Glover won an Emmy for lead actor in a comedy for his portrayal as Earnest "Earn" Marks. The show centers around Marks who is the manager for his up and coming rapper cousin Paper Boi. As I mentioned Donald Glover portrays our main Character, and he does a phenomenal job in his performance. Earn is really down on his luck when we first meet him in the show. He is broke, lives with his on-again-off-again girlfriend, and have a daughter. Earn really is just trying to give them a good living and everything he does is for them. Glover is known for his comedic performance in the tv show Community, and he brings this comedic element to Earn. While for the most part Atlanta is a drama it has elements of comedy sprinkled throughout each episode. Glover also plays well off each character he interacts with. You see the relationship trouble he and his girlfriend have in each scene they are in together. Whenever...

So this week I am doing a different kind of review. The first few weeks I reviewed the first season of a certain show. This week I have not had the time to watch a 20 episode season. So instead I watched a Hulu documentary called Too Funny to Fail: The Life and Death of The Dana Carvey Show . I have to say that this documentary was very interesting. I did not know much about The Dana Carvey Show, but I had watched the people involved. The play-by-play of how the show went from its beginning to its demise was captivating.  The Dana Carvey Show was a sketch comedy show by the comic Dana Carvey. After Carvey left Saturday Night Live he wanted to start a show that would revolutionize sketch comedy. The Dana Carvey Show was essentially a raunchier version of Saturday Night Live. The difference between the two was that The Dana Carvey Show was put in primetime while Saturday Night Live was a late-night show. The first season of Fargo was one of the most captivating and beautiful pieces of television that I have ever watched. I have seen previews of the show before, but I have never been interested in watching it. Last semester I took Film Appreciation, and one of the movies you watch is the film Fargo. The movie was better than I anticipated and thought watching the first season would be a good show to review. The summary of the first season of Fargo is complicated to explain. It starts off with our main character Lester Nygaard. He is an insurance agent who has a miserable life. His wife resents him and his brother doesn't care for him. His life turns for the worst when a bully from his youth encounters him on the street. He gets a bloody nose from the encounter and meets hitman Lorne Malvo. Nygaard unintentionally has Malvo kill his bully, and becomes in accomplice to Malvo's crime. Having enough of his wife he murder's her with a hammer, and calls Malvo to help him cover u...

Arrested Development is show about the dysfunctional family of the Bluth's. The reason I liked this season so much was due to how horrible a family they are. They are egotistical and only care about themselves and this the kind of people I enjoy watching. Anyway the show is about how the Bluth's live their daily lives after the head of the family is arrested for multitude of charges. The oldest son has to take over the daily activities of the family business, and thus the family itself. A little background on each member of the Bluth family. The Patriarch of the family is George Bluth Sr. George Sr. is played by Jeffrey Tambor and he plays the character perfectly. The sinister persona that Tambor portrays really fits what the show is trying to tell you who this character is. George Sr. wife is Lucille Bluth she is very manipulative person who controls everything going on in her children's lives. Their oldest son is Michael Bluth and is played by Jason Bateman. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a show that I have always been interested in watching. My favorite type of television shows are comedies and I like some of the actors in the show. So I thought that this would be a great show to start off my TV Wrap Up blog. Brooklyn Nine-Nine is about the 99th precinct of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn. Our main character is Jake Peralta played by SNL alum Andy Samberg. He is your classic immature, lone wolf cop, but is a very skilled detective. He is not big into having partners except for his best friend Charles Boyle. Boyle is immature much like Peralta and so they have that in common. Peralta is most at odds in the police department with the new Captain Ray Holt and Amy Santiago, both of these characters are by the book cops who do not take kindly to Peralta's immature nature.
